The Cost of Going Greener

We all know, deep down, that going greener is good for the environment. Yet many folks are hesitant to take the needed steps because of the costs involved. Of course these prices will vary depending on the size of your home, your location, and any contractors used plus supplies. The prices listed below are based on a 2,500 sq. ft. home and were from The National Trust for Historic Preservation.

Here are some of the more common home energy saving ideas and how long the payback will be:

1. Energy Audit

Cost: $0 -$500

Annual Savings: $440-$1,100

Payback: 1 year or less

Your projected savings will be based on the audit-recommended improvements to the average home with annual energy bills around $2,000 dollars. Check with your local utilities company to see if they offer a free audit.

No matter what please have an audit performed before you start any home improvement projects.

2. Duct Sealing
