The corruption of the government is draining the life out of our nation. The economy continues to crumble and with it so does the trust the American people have in our so-called leaders.
People's trust in government has taken a down-ward spiral since the administration of President Eisenhower. The Pew Research puts the number of those who trusted the government, in 1958, at 73 percent.
That trust has taken a beating as the years have rolled by, according to the research poll trust in government is at an all-time low of 26 percent. Corruption is rampant and can be found in all levels of government; federal, local and state.
As Obama began his second-term trust in our government was mired near the historic low while frustration with them ran high. This is the first time in the history of our nation that a vast "majority of the country feels the federal government threatens their personal rights and freedoms."
The acts of corruption the leaders of our government commit are sometimes brazen. They seem to have no fear of being exposed or prosecuted. This is the very reason "we the people" need to hold their feet to the fire and make them accountable.
Their deeds that are done in the darkness need to be exposed to the light of day. Not only are the leaders in our nation corrupt, but it runs through a lot of corporations and even right down into the citizenry.
It would seem that many Americans take their cue from the government when it comes to corruption and immorality. Washington is drowning in so much corruption that we are almost becoming desensitized to it. If there is no trust between government and its citizenry or corporations how do we function as a nation? There seems to be nothing in the news today but scandal and lies one right after the other. Corruption isn't just limited to one political party or the other. It has reared it's ugly head in both parties; it's bipartisan.
Corruption isn't a black, white, yellow or red thing, it's an issue that resides in the heart of mankind. It's a sickness that runs deep into the soul of men. Corruption is at the root of most problems in this world. It's responsible for a multitude of mankind's miseries. Despite what people say, you can’t just teach morality and expect men to follow the rules because the root issue of the problem is the nature of mankind to lean toward wickedness.
If we examine the history of nations we see they might start out good and grow for a time but when immorality sets in and everyone does what is right in their own eyes is when society fails. The Bible gives us examples of what happens when immorality rules. In secular history, we have seen it happen in Babylon, Assyria, Greece, Rome and the cycle being is repeated in America. The conscience of mankind is corrupt and defiled. Titus 1:15 says: "To the pure all things are pure, but to those who are defiled and unbelieving nothing is pure; but even their mind and conscience are defiled."
Is there a way out of all this corruption? Yes, thankfully there is and that's found in the person of Jesus Christ. Without the regenerating effect that salvation in Christ brings mankind will continue with their wicked ways. However, for the person who makes the decision to live and accept Christ, we receive freedom from sin; John 8:36 says, "Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed."
Patrick Henry once said, "Bad men cannot make good citizens. A vitiated (to debase something: to degrade something morally) state of morals, a corrupted public conscience are incompatible with freedom." Our nation cannot continue on the current path we are on, things must change or we are surely headed for destruction.
