More and more chefs are flocking to Las Vegas as the city continues to grow in culinary prestige. And while many of these talents show their skills off on the Strip, a growing number are building up the community itself by sharing their talents in cooking programs around town. Locals will learn from some of the very best at The Cooking Experience, by Mise En Place. This Henderson establishment delivers food enthusiasts and novice chefs the opportunity to advance their knowledge in the culinary world using state-of-the-art equipment and modern gourmet techniques.
The Cooking Experience differentiates itself from traditional culinary academies and formal programs such as Cordon Bleu by providing a noncommittal, recreational environment for foodies to experiment with their craft without the pressure of earning a certificate. Classes teach everything from knife techniques to wine appreciation, as well as specialized courses in preparing worldly cuisine. Staff from across the world teach authentic preparation of French, Italian, Brazilian, Thai and Spanish cooking among others.
Guests can experience a variety of lessons suited for different schedules, budgets and desired skills. The lunch and dinner demos offer one and one and a half-hour classes respectively, where guests oversee the production of a multi-course meal. Flash courses offer hands-on instruction for preparation and techniques behind everyday meals and sides. Skills and Techniques courses take learning a level further with two-hour focuses on various culinary methods. Gourmet lessons offer hands-on preparation of a refined 3-course meal with wine pairing. One-on-one lessons are available as well.
Further mixing it up are Le Petit classes, weekend morning courses that allow children ages 5-12 to explore the art of baking. And perhaps the most elaborate event, the ‘Chef Battle,’ puts cooking rivals, in groups of up to 11, against each other in a true made-for-TV setting.
The Cooking Experience provides a small but intimate space, perfect for couples, individuals, or small groups to develop their talents at personal cooking stations. Stylish amenities include Sub-Zero Wolf appliances and French Mauviel 1830 copper pans. These items are also available for purchase at The Cooking Experience’s online retail store, the “Cook Shop.” The schedule of events here is ever-changing and space is limited and in high demand.
