The performer’s ninth tour, and tenth live recording, won an award given by Billboard for the $305 million grossing shows. This tour surpassed Celine Dion’s Taking Chances Tour, making Madonna the highest-grossing solo artist, highest-grossing female artist, and the female artist to have the top two entries of all time.
The Sticky & Sweet Tour, which saw her touring in 2008 and 2009, is the highest-grossing tour by a solo artist and female solo artist of all time.
The MDNA Tour is full of effects, hits and enough controversy to last until the following tour. When performing in Moscow her support of feminist punk-rock band Pussy Riot made the news. When she performed in St. Petersburg, she was met with terrorist threats. The show went ahead as scheduled. However, she made a point to discuss the anti-GLBT law which prohibits: "public actions aimed at propaganda of sodomy, lesbianism, bisexuality, and transgenderism among minors". Reports have her listed among other music acts as having violated the terms of visas, citing that these artists entered the country illegally with the wrong visas, and they are under investigation. Many sources add that this is simply a way for the Russian government to penalize those who vocally opposed their laws.
