The con-man versus the Khan-man; Mayweather wins, fans lose

Let me first admit that I'm as big a Floyd hater as the next guy and would pay to see him lose. However there's no way I'm going to spend a single dime to watch Floyd against an absolute no-hoper, which happens to be Amir Khan, the apparent winner of the Mayweather sweepstakes.

In case you missed it, Mayweather set up some sort of Twitter poll in which fans got to vote for either Maidana or Khan to be Floyd's next opponent. The poll itself was a sham, as there's still only one fighter the boxing world wants to see Floyd in the ring with--Manny Pacquiao.

Most believed that the fight of the millennium was DOA after Pacquiao's savage knockout loss to Marquez, but immediately after Pacquiao outlcassed and beat up Brandon Rios, talks of Pacquiao-Mayweather rose from the ashes. It was arguably the best Pacquiao has looked since he stopped Miguel Cotto back in 2009, and it was more than enough to reignite the fans' demand for Mayweather to man up and fight Manny.

Instead we'll get Amir Khan, whose chances of beating Floyd are slimmer than a Pacquiao-Mayweather trilogy. When Mayweather fought the drained and dehydrated Canelo Alvarez, at least Alvarez still had some semblance of a size and strength advantage that gave Floyd haters hope that if all else failed, Alvarez might still land a lucky punch.

Against the feather-fisted, blown up lightweight Robert Guerrero, at least there was hope that Mayweather could get old overnight and get out-hustled by the volume-punching Guerrero.

On the other hand, the only way for Khan to beat Mayweather is for the "fan man" to descend upon the middle of the ring and land on Mayweather's head at full force. Last time I checked, the fight is going to take place indoors.

The hype train will soon be chugging along and the so called "experts" will be saying that Khan has the right style to beat Mayweather. They'll mention Khan's power and hand speed but ignore Khan's glass chin and lackluster performances against mediocre opposition.

Mayweather will finally get the knockout he's been chasing since his last legitimate knockout win, which interestingly enough came against another Brit by the name of Ricky Hatton. Khan will get a nice paycheck after getting humiliated and making Mayweather look like Tommy Hearns. Boxing fans will be $60 poorer and none the wiser.
