If you have any interest in meeting some of your favorite actors from the big and small screen then get your tail over to the PA Convention Center for Wizard World. The last day is Sunday.
Yes, they are charging for autographs and that may rub people the wrong way but it does not cost anything to say hello. Some of the actors there are so nice, such as Sarah Wayne Callies. She was so down to earth that she was one of the most successful people there. by spending time with her fans she made sure they felt welcome. When Sarah treated her fans with respect, those fans then reached out to their friends and they were only too happy to stand in line. They want their friends to experience it. The same with James Marsters and Norman Reedus. The line for Reedus was long but he took the time to speak with each person in line, at times taking cellphones from his fans and talking with their friends who could not make it. Class act all the way.
Whoopie Goldberg did not get that message. Herding people through like cattle, charging $100.00 per autograph and another c note for a photo, she was there only for the money and people saw that. Those that were thinking about getting an autograph got to hold on to their money when Whoopi's people chased away fans that wanted to take a photo. At least 200 people made rude comments about her after they were shooed away. That's a shame cause Whoopie made some really great movies and these fans wanted to interact with Laurel Ayers ( Associate) or Eddie and talk basketball. Sorry, it was not happening. However, when she did her Q&A Saturday, she could not care who took pictures and graciously answered every question. The same for Nathan Fillion who did not want pictures taken. It sends a bad vibe and chases away fans,
Michael Rooker got the message, teaching his fans that the middle finger means "I Love You" and not an obscene insult. He was busy slapping hands with his fans and many pictures with ,will have him and his fans flipping the bird. Close by was Martin Kove and Ralph Macchio who were too happy to recite lines from the Karate Kid. They were there for the 30th anniversary of the movie.
Another 30th anniversary is Revenge of the Nerds. Curtis Armstrong and Brian Tochi both "Nerds" were there. "Nerds are cool now ", said Tochi. Truer words were never spoken. The jocks in high school are mostly working menial jobs, and are generally not too smart. They got passed through in school cause of their athletic ability and now that they cannot play, reality sets in for a life of mediocrity, as nerds are the ones owning businesses, with money in the bank, tossing pennies to the annoying jocks. Someone has to clean dog crap. Revenge of the Nerds indeed.
There are voice over actors from the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. There are crowd sourced and crowd funded movies there. Then there are folks like Sea Sheppard this is not a film crew these are real life heroes that will use any means necessary to save marine wildlife. When moronic hunters kill whales and club seals, these people put themselves in front of the animals and are not afraid of taking down a little hunter or two.
The last day of the con is Sunday,June 22, 2014 . It closes at 5:00 p.m.
