Orlando band The Cold Start is headed to Austin, TX to play the South By Southwest Music Festival (SXSW). The festival takes place from March 11-16 and features over 1700 showcasing artists. The Cold Start will be playing Friday, March 14 at Esther’s Follies.

For the band, Lloyd Williams (lead vocals/rhythm guitar/keys), Nicholas Taylor (lead guitar), Daniel Smith (bass/backing vocals) and Adam Cardy (drums), this will be their first time playing this festival. Lead singer Williams has been there before, “I have been to SXSW on a day off from tour before and a band I was working for played it as well. It’s pure bedlam.”

The band members are thrilled with the opportunity playing SXSW presents. “It’s an incredible festival and for a band such as ours, it’s the perfect place to perform in front a lot of people who wouldn’t usually get to hear the band,” said Smith.

“To have been asked to perform officially and not just traveling there and hoping to some how find a way to play is something we’re really proud of,” added Williams. “It’s arguably the biggest opportunity we’ve had so far, so we’re getting ready to make the absolute most out of the chance we’ve been presented with.”

The band’s trip to SXSW is included in their upcoming March tour. The tour starts on March 9 in Houston with dates in St. Louis, Chicago, New York, Philadelphia and several more cities before the band gets back to Florida. “It's our biggest tour yet, distance and time away wise,” said Williams. “We’re lucky with the routing, the cities we’re playing are amazing and it’s all about having new people hear our music and getting to the places people have asked us to go to for some time.”

Smith is looking forward to traveling to and playing in all these unfamiliar cities, “10 plus years ago if you ever asked me that I’d be in the position I’m in now I never would have believed you. It’s amazing.”

In 2013 the band released two EPs. Their self-titled debut came out in January and their latest, “Grateful Eyes” was released in October. (Read the Examiner.com review here.) Both EP’s are available on iTunes.

The Cold Start originated in England, but has made Orlando their current home. Music fans can check out the indie pop-rock band on their official site, Facebook, Twitter, You Tube, Soundcloud and Instagram.
