The Coffee Hag: A local favorite

The Coffee Hag is without a doubt one of Mankato’s best kept secrets. While larger coffee shops, such as Caribou Coffee may attract more clients, the Coffee Hag knows how to treat their customers right.

The Coffee Hag, or as locals call it, “The Hag,” is located in historical downtown Mankato, Minn. Everyday, there are a variety of different homemade treats, ranging from scones to muffins to cookies. All of their food and drinks are made fresh, in house, every day. The menu contains a large variety of drinks, and all of the food is vegetarian or vegan.

All of their coffee is fairtrade and organic, so you can rest easy that by going to the coffee hag you are making the best choice for the environment and the people who grew the coffee beans. It is obvious that the owner and the employees at The Hag are passionate about LGBT and Women’s rights. The front counter is plastered with stickers about both of these topics.

The Hag has a stage in the front of their shop, and many nights you can find local and regional talent showcasing their music. They also regularly change their artwork, featuring local artists. The best part? If you like one of the pieces of artwork, the pieces are usually for sale!

The Coffee Hag is a small shop in Mankato, but don’t let appearances fool you. This coffee shop is bursting with life and delicious coffee.
