“And now it’s time for one last bow
Like all your other selves.
Eleven’s hour is over now,
The clock is striking twelves.”
On Christmas Day, the great Time Lord known only by the name Doctor, came to the end of an era. Like all his other faces, they could not last forever. But this time is different. The Doctor can no longer regenerate, he’s used them all up. What happens now? What about all the unanswered questions that arose during this Time Lord’s life? What is the Silence? Who blew up the TARDIS? What is the Question? And why must Silence fall? ... The answers were waiting for the Whovians of the world in the Christmas special, The Time of the Doctor.
Fantastic acting and genius writing met the world on that day. Matt Smith, the actor most recently in the Doctor’s shoes, gave a performance that melted the hearts of every fan. Nearly five years ago, no one would have thought that the youngest actor ever to play the rambunctious alien could have ever been so young and so old at once. He took the role and made it into arguably one of the broadest emotional and physical takes on the ancient Time Lord. And now, as he took his last bow as the beloved character, he reminds the world one last time that he was born to be the Doctor, and he always will be.
Emotions are high strung in this fast paced episode. The end is fitting and the mood is bittersweet as this song ends. But the story never ends.
