The fabulous 2012-13 season of the Cleveland Orchestra continues into February with the return of two favorite conductors returning. Herbert Blomstedt conducts two subscription concert series with highlights that include Beethoven’s Symphony No. 7 and Dvořák’s Symphony No. 9 (“From the New World”).
Then, February 28 through March 2, Music Director Laureate Christoph von Dohnányi leads the Orchestra in the First Symphony by Gustav Mahler; a program that also features Adagio, Fuge und Mänadentanz from The Bassarids by the late Hans Werner Henze (1926-2012).
February also marks the debut of acclaimed Italian conductor Gianandrea Noseda. He is currently music director of the Teatro Regio in Turin, Italy. In addition to Prokofiev’s Sixth Symphony and Rachmaninoff’s The Isle of the Dead, Mr. Noseda will be joined by Cleveland Orchestra Principal Trombone, and fellow Italian, Massimo La Rosa for the film composer Nino Rota’s Trombone Concerto.
