“Traveling the Silk Road Concert & Cultural Festival” (set for Sunday, June 29 from 3:30 to 7:00 p.m.) takes the exhibit experience to a whole new level of sound, sight and smells
Without a doubt, the newest exhibit at the Cleveland Museum of Natural History is a fully immersive trip back in time. Complete with background noises and scents you truly feel like a traveler making your way from China to Iraq over the well worn trail.
On June 29, 2014 the “Traveling the Silk Road Concert & Cultural Festival” will amp up the experience even more as six renowned world musicians and a vocalist will gather to play and discuss their various instruments and techniques.
The group consists of: Jamey Haddad, Percussion; Ali Amr, Qanun (Arabic dulcimer); Yazhi Guo, Suona (Chinese oboe); Salar Nader, Indian and Afghani Tabla; Michael Ward-Bergeman, Hyper-Accordion; Tareq S.K. Rantisi, Percussion and Sugata Chatterjee - Hindustani classic vocalist. The performers and their instruments hail from such far-off lands as Afghanistan, Morocco, China and the Middle East.
Along with the concert, guests can also see Indian classical dancers from the Anga Kala Kathak Academy perform as well as a Chinese Dragon Dance. Local artisans will also be on hand to demonstrate ancient arts such as papermaking, calligraphy, silk spinning and origami. Visitors can have their names translated into Chinese calligraphy on a bookmark as well as learn how to fold an origami craft to take home with them.

Members: Adults: $20; Youth: $10
Non-members: Adults: $25; Youth: $15
Performers, artisans, a cash beer and wine bar and light cultural fare in the Museum’s lobby and Sears Hall. The Blue Planet Café will be open until at 5:00 p.m.
