The 54th annual Grammy Awards took place on February 12, 2012, at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. Here is what these Grammy winners said backstage in the Grammy Awards press room.
THE CIVIL WARS
Winner of:
Best Country Duo or Group Performance (“Barton Hallow”)
Best Folk Album (“Barton Hallow”)
Now that you’ve won two Grammys, do you still feel nervous?
Joy Williams: I’m feeling butterflies. I can’t tell if it’s my baby kicking or the actual butterflies itself, but both sensations are really, really wonderful.
John Paul White: I probably had some nerves before this [winning a Grammy] happened. And now, the focus is, “Oh yeah, we’re playing too. I might need to focus on that.”
Williams: Icing on the cake.
How do you feel about playing for such a huge audience tonight?
Williams: Yeah, we are more used to intimate crowds where people are more attentive and know the words, but to be performing on the Grammy stage is not only a great honor, but thankfully, we’ll be able to look down and see some familiar faces that we either know personally or those that we idolize. I will probably be trying to find those familiar faces and not those that we idolize, as to not elevate the nerves.
White: Yeah, luckily, we’re playing in the center of the floor, so Paul McCartney is behind us, which is good.
Williams: Sir Paul!
White: I don’t need to lock eyes with Paul McCartney. It’s not going to be good.
