The City of Burleson opened up application process for city Council seats

The City of Burleson opened the application process for obtaining a seat on the Burleson City Council on January 30, 2013. As of January 31 two current members reapplied for their seat on the Council. Jerry P. Allen applied for Place 3 and Don McClendon for Place 5.

Jerry P. Allen has taken part in running Burleson government for 20 years. He served on the Planning and Zoning Commission from 1991-1998. He joined the City Council in 1998 in order to fill Mayor Black’s old seat. He was elected to Mayor Pro Tem from 2000-2007. The City created the Jerry Allen Award for Excellence in Community Improvement and he was honored with the first award. He left that post in 2007 due to business responsibilities. In 2010 he returned to the Planning and Zoning Commission and served there until his election to the City Council Place in 2011.

Dan McClendon was elected to Place 6 on the City Council on May 2007.

He founded the McClendon Construction Company here in Burleson and also serves as Vice President of Tarrant County Contractors Association.

He is a pilot for Grace Flight America which provides free flights for people with medical problems and financial hardships.

He is married with five children and one grandchild and still finds time to sing in the choir at St. Matthews Cumberland Presbyterian Church and the Soulful Sound gospel group and acts with the Burleson Community Theatre.

The Burleson local election will be May 11, 2013, you have until March 1 to decide if you wish to be a candidate for city council. The application brochure is 100 pages and covers city regulations, The Texas Ethics Commission rules for political campaigns, Code of Fair Campaigns etc.

You may present your application to city hall, fax it to elections@burlesontx.com, or mail it to the City Secretary 141 Renfro St. Remember the deadline for applications is March 1.

The last day to rescind your application will be March 4.
