THE CITY is cancelled according to WHITNEY PORT

Whitney Port says that The City has been cancelled, when she called into Ryan Seacrest this morning, saying... "As of right now, it doesn't looks like we're doing it anymore", but MTV hasn't confirmed this fact.

Whitney did her best to be in cheerful spirits as she announced the unfortunate news, and said that one door closes, and another one opens, but it sounded like Whitney was sad about it.

For awhile, Whitney's been expressing that she wants to come back to LA, because it's her home, and start focusing more on her clothing line, and her book, True Whit, coming out in February.

There's also speculation here and there that Whitney could be joining her BFF, Lauren Conrad, on Lauren's new reality show, which started filming last week, or even do Dancing With The Stars, like Audrina's doing now.

From 10 miles away, this reporter knew that The City would end simultaneously with The Hills, but more quietly, given the low ratings it got, and there could be no way The City could survive without assistance from The Hills.

A major factor too is MTV's shift in the reality programming it's currently airing, like Jersey Shore, Teen Mom, and 16 & Pregnant, where ratings are substantially higher, and more record breaking than The Hills.

Jersey Shore is one thing, where it could be obsolete next year, but Teen Mom and 16 & Pregnant are said to be ground-breaking shows, that are gritty, more real, and more suitable for the severe economic climate we've been in for two years now.

Another reason why The Hills and The City gave away is that MTV has shifted the film crews and budget for both these shows to more scripted programming like Skins, The Hard Times of R.J. Berger, and MTV movies like My Super-Psycho Sweet 16, Turn The Beat Around, etc.; filming them in lower cost places like Canada and Georgia, costing less than what it took to produce 2 episodes of The Hills.

Finally, Hills creator, Adam DiVello has gone M.I.A. since The Hills ended, he's nowhere on the scene, and hasn't announced any new projects.

As for The City, it should have never came into existance, Adam DiVello should have kept his focus on The Hills, and not let it get as bad as it did, even before The City debuted.

Whitney Port's storyline would've been better for The Hills, along with more focus on Audrina, and even Lauren, instead of constantly on Lo, Stephanie, Holly, Kelly Cutrone, and Speidi, The Hills givingly lost it's focus from what it originally was.

And MTV's shift in programming started as early as 2007, where management began changing, and MTV was doing its' best to focus on younger millenials than The Hills, while developing new programming in the process.

In all this sea change, The Hills were the victim of younger generations, MTV's new program direction, and a falling economy, which surely effected storylines in hindsight.

Overall, we can only guide Whitney Port to embrace opportunities that will enhance her entertainment and fashion career, and wish her lots of success.
