You probably remember it well, as one of your favorite movies; “Close Encounters of the Third Kind”. Richard Dreyfus played the leading part. For many people the movie was the embodiment of many theories about aliens and UFO’s that they personally had held, or had been told about, speculated upon or read in various books and magazines over the years.
Of course one has to be careful when reading articles, viewing photos and especially YouTube videos. There is some real photo and video evidence of UFO's out there. However with modern computer equipment, even a 15 year old can fake a photo or video with a little practice. A simple example of a fake UFO photo is below.
Some books on UFO’s have included the writer’s theories about the Biblical description that Ezekiel gives of an encounter with a being/s and a kind of ‘craft’. You can see the description that he gives in Ezekiel Chapter one. Is this ‘craft’ in Ezekiel a UFO; and, are they ‘aliens’? Many who have written about this biblical passage in books and magazine articles are misinterpreting and/or misrepresenting the incident that happened thousands of years ago.
What Ezekiel did see was a vision of God’s Glory riding on a Throne-Chariot. Ezekiel first saw a fierce whirlwind coming from the north. Then he saw four living creatures, each of which had four faces (lion, ox, eagle, man), four wings, straight feet, and hands under its wings. The creatures symbolize those attributes of God which are seen in creation: His majesty, power, swiftness, and wisdom.
What about modern times? Alien abductions, UFO sightings, animal mutilations and more have been attributed to beings from some other planetary system far, far away. Currently, we can watch UFO Hunters on TV. UFO's come right into our homes via Cable or Satellite TV. But how much do we dare believe?
The chain of events in modern times that have brought us to where we are today with regards to UFO’s and ‘aliens’ started with the events that happened back in the late 1940’s. Actually 1947 is the 'birth year' of UFO phenomena in America.
June 24, 1947: Kenneth Arnold, a Pilot sees 9 disks while he was flying over Mount Rainier, Washington. He said that they "looked like saucers skimming over water". His description became the world wide moniker of these 'alien' craft. They became known as "Flying Saucers".
July 7, 1947: The Roswell Incident. Roswell New Mexico. The military reportedly had recovered ‘alien’ bodies from a UFO crash.
September 19, 1961 - Betty and Barney Hill, a mixed race married couple were on vacation in Canada. They crossed back into New Hampshire heading back home. They claim they were abducted by 'aliens', experienced 'missing time' as well as a buzzing sound and tingling over their bodies. Their experience is well documented in a book by John G. Fuller called "The Interrupted Journey" in 1966.
November 5, 1975 - Travis Walton, from Snowflake, AZ was working as a logger when he was reportedly abducted while on the job many miles from home by a UFO. He was found 3 days later in a phone booth in his hometown, stark naked and scared. His experience was later made into a movie called "Fire In The Sky" in 1993.
The UFO incidents mentioned here are just a few of the thousands of cases on file with many UFO investigation organizations, the U.S. Air Force and other U.S. Government agencies. All of the incidents whether current or back in the 40’s, have some similarities.
As Christians, we must be careful about what we believe about UFO's. More than likely, they are the Devil's henchmen! We must remember that demon's can take on any shape or form and appear to be something they are not.
