Writing this chocolate column I have had the opportunity to speak with all types of chocolatiers and pastry chefs. Some of my favorite stories are about those individuals who left their chosen career path to travel down a sweeter road. Lisa - the owner of The Chocolate Swirl - is one of those people!
In a former life, Lisa was an off-Broadway theatrical stage manager. As an intern on a limited budget, she was in no position to bring in lavish gifts for everyone on opening night. She decided instead to use her creative talents. The result? Lots of lots of delicious truffles! While her gifts may not have been lavish, they were certainly delicious and very popular. She became know as the “truffle intern”!
Eventually, Lisa decided to take a break from the theater. She attended a pastry program at the Institute of Culinary Education in New York City and now spends her days creating sweet things!
The Chocolate Swirl produces delicious handmade treats including gourmet truffles, cupcakes, customized cakes, cookies and decadent desserts perfect for birthday parties, bridal or baby showers, corporate gifts or for your personal indulgence! One of The Chocolate Swirl’s fun creative confections is the Brownie Pop. Lisa has taken her delicious brownies and placed them on a stick taking the lollipop up to a much higher level! Here are just a few of the brownie pop flavors available:
- Chocolate Pretzel - rich chocolate brownie dipped in milk chocolate then covered in chopped pretzels
- White Chocolate - rich chocolate brownie dipped in white chocolate
- Smores - rich chocolate brownie with mini marshmallows inside dipped in mild chocolate then covered in graham cracker crumbs
- Chocolate Butterscotch Ripple - a butterscotch blondie scattered with chocolate chips, caramel and marshmallow
Is your mouth watering yet? There are also seasonal designs and flavors available - or even customized versions. Lisa says everything is more fun on a stick and I think these brownie pops prove that point!
If you are in the New York City area, you can find The Chocolate Swirl treats at various markets throughout the city where Lisa and her “truffle elves” will be on hand with an assortment of delicious creative confections. Events and additional information can be found at www.thechocolateswirl.com. Orders can be placed online for pick up at a local market or for delivery if you are not in the area.
Personally, I am really glad Lisa took a break from theater!
