"Let's go to Lardo," is probably the last thing any vegetarian wants to hear around dinner time.
The place is pretty much what one would expect from their name: their logo is a pig and they're known for their pork. They have one vegetarian sandwich -- however, as luck would have it, it is one tasty sandwich.
The chickpea burger is served on a soft poppy-seed roll, topped with cucumber yogurt sauce, a delicious carrot feta slaw, and a bit of harissa. The patty is kind of like a big fluffy falafel with a slightly crispy outside texture, but without the dry crunchiness one might expect. It tends to fall apart, but it's delicious. The chickpea burger has bit of a deep-fried grease sheen to it, just to let vegetarians know they're still in a place called Lardo.
No sides come with the sandwich, but that's all right -- paired with a Hales Brewing Cream Ale on nitro, it's quite filling.
Other veg-friendly options include the Lardo fries with herbs and parmesan, the kale salad, spring salad, and three pea salad. The asparagus sandwich can also be made without the ham. Vegans, beware: each of these features a small amount of dairy or honey, so be ready to substitute.
Lardo Westside is located at 1205 SW Washington St, Portland OR.
