'The Chicago Code's' Jennifer Beals won't stop until her job is done

Jennifer Beals (‘Flashdance’, ‘The L Word’) stars as Superintendent Teresa Colvin in Shawn Ryan’s (‘The Shield’, ‘Lie to Me’) fresh crime drama premiering February 7th on Fox, ‘The Chicago Code’.  Beals portrays the highest ranking police officer in Chicago, with every cop in the city reporting to her.  Colvin has worked her way up over many years in the force.  She seeks to use her new position to squash corruption within the ranks of the Windy City’s political machine, specifically in the office of dirty Alderman Ronin Gibbons (Delroy Lindo), the man who gave her the job.  While Gibbons thinks he put a would-be puppet into a position of power, Colvin’s only intent is to bring him down and she won’t stop until her job is done.  Local TV viewers are intrigued by the show and the fact a female is playing such a powerful role.  One Flint resident who has seen the preview said, ‘I’m definitely going to give ‘The Chicago Code’ a try.  Looks like there’s a female in charge.  That’s a fresh approach and I definitely want to check it out.’

Creator/Executive Producer Ryan is indeed offering the crime genre something fresh and on a grander scale with Beals as Colvin running a 10,000 member police department in a huge city that is as known for its crime as it is for its pizza.

Beals, who is well known for her breakout performance in the 1983 film-turned-phenomenon ‘Flashdance’, was born and raised in the Windy City.   Her more recent TV roles include playing Bette Porter on Showtime’s critically acclaimed series ‘The L Word’.  Beals received several Image Award nominations for her performance.  She also worked previously with Ryan in her role as Zoe Landau in ‘Lie to Me’, which is also on Fox.

Beals is excited about her bold new character on ‘The Chicago Code.’   On January 11th EW.com reported:

‘I thought it was in incredible character, a woman in this position, which has not been done before,’ Beals said. ‘She is creating the template. What will that journey that be like? You can’t be self-confident all the time. She certainly has been in the force long enough to have quite a bit of respect. But there is nobody who has gone before her, so she has to be on her game. She’s aware that if she makes mistakes, she ruins it for women after her.’

Beals’ co-stars on the show include Jason Clarke (‘Public Enemies’, ‘Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps’) as Detective Jarek Wysocki, her ex-partner and man on the street, and Matt Lauria as Caleb Evers, Wysocki’s new young partner.  Devin Kelley plays Jarek’s niece Vonda Wysocki, who is a rookie beat cop and Todd Williams is Isaac Joiner, her hotshot partner.

‘The Chicago Code’ premieres on February 7th in the Flint area on WSMH FOX66 at 9 PM EST.
