'The Chicago Code' finds Jason Clarke on the other side of the law

Aussie film and television actor Jason Clarke played Red Hamilton, a criminal associate of John Dillinger in the 2009 Michael Mann film ‘Public Enemies'.  The film was partially shot in Chicago, and now Jason Clarke is returning to the Windy City to play someone working on the other side of the law:  Detective Jarek Wysocki on Shawn Ryan’s (‘The Shield’) new crime drama ‘The Chicago Code.’  I have spoken to Flint area residents within the last 2 days who have seen previews and are looking forward to the series premiere on FOX on February 7th.  Clarke is starring opposite Jennifer Beals (‘Flashdance’, ‘L Word’) who plays Superintendent Teresa Colvin.  Clarke’s character serves as her eyes on the streets, as he works to clean up crime and corruption and avenge his brother’s murder.

Clarke has made several television appearances on Australian television series such as ‘White Collar Blue’ and ‘Stingers’.  He also played Tommy Caffee on the Showtime series ‘Brotherhood’.

‘The Chicago Code’ offers something new for Clarke and for crime drama enthusiasts.  The city of Chicago is notorious for housing and busting criminal legends throughout the decades like Al Capone and John Dillinger.  ‘The Chicago Code’ takes a fresh and current look at crime and corruption in the infamous city through the eyes of a female holding the highest ranking police title – superintendent.

Clarke is excited about his new role.  During a film clip on the show’s website he said, ‘I think it’s an honest show.  I think the heart of it lies in an honesty and the storylines are particular and that’s where it starts.’

In another clip, Clarke talks about his character Wysocki and his co-star Beals’ character.  He says, ‘I like this cop.  His lines are a lot more blurred – kicking doors in, throwing guys against walls.  He’s endured the chaos.  He’s just done.  He knows how to take control.’  Of Superintendent Colvin he says, ‘She’s ambitious.  She’s got a healthy dose of irreverence and a proper Chicago commitment.’

He continues in the clip talking about Wysocki’s young partner Caleb Evers (Matt Lauria).  It seems a partner is an adjustment for Wysocki, as he doesn’t like anyone around him, listening to conversations, or messing his car up.

Wysocki and Colvin share a history as former police partners.  Whether their relationship extends to a deeper or physically intimate level remains to be seen.

Also starring in the show is Delroy Lindo as corrupt Alderman Ronin Gibbons, and Devin Kelly as Wysocki’s niece Vonda Wysocki.  Vonda is a rookie beat cop and her partner is Isaac Joiner (Todd Williams).  Also on board is an Irish thug, Liam Hennessey, played by Billy Lush.

‘The Chicago Code’ premieres February 7th in the Flint area on WSMH FOX66 at 9 PM EST.
