'The Chicago Code' cancelled by FOX

It's that time of the year again; all the networks are cleaning up their lineups as they look to the new Fall season. One Chicago-based TV show wasn't so lucky this time around. FOX officially cancelled The Chicago Code on May 10, 2011.

It's unfortunate to see The Chicago Code go. While it wasn't the best of Shawn Ryan's cop TV shows, it had a few good storylines, and it brought the entertainment industry back to the Windy City. The Chicago Tribune reports that it brought in 400 jobs as well as $25 million in revenue.

But what the FOX crime drama didn't bring in was the audience numbers. The show's highest ratings came back in February with 7.4 million viewers. This week's episode, "Black Sox," only drew 5.7 million.

The Chicago Code was the first show in a long while to really feature parts of the city heavily, including Chinatown, Boystown, and even el platforms. But hopefully the trend the show started isn’t going to away, even though the decent show is. Starz continues to film eight episodes of ‘Boss’ in Chicago, while a handful of other pilots are shooting this Spring/Summer as well.

Are you sad to see The Chicago Code go?

For fans, have no fear. FOX still intends to air the final two episodes of the show, so all current storylines will be--mostly--wrapped up.
