On June 24 indie horror film “The Chair” announced via Facebook that new rewards have been added on the film’s Kickstarter campaign page. At the time of this printing there are four days remaining to back the film and 213 backers have pledged over $112,000 of the film’s $300,000 budget goal.
“The Chair” stars Brian Thompson (“Buffy the Vampire Slayer”) as Richard Sullivan, an innocent man who is sentenced to death, and details his fight to survive the horror that ensues in the walls of the prison around him.The intense film not only features plenty of gory fright but also explores important themes like child abuse and the internal battle between good vs. evil.
The brilliant cast in the dark tale of psychological terror also includes Oscar and Golden Globe nominee Eric Roberts (“Runaway Train”), Bill Oberst, Jr. (“Children of Sorrow”), Kin Shriner (“General Hospital”), Susan Eisenberg (“Wonder Woman”) and Naomi Grossman (“American Horror Story”).
Some of the new and exciting Kickstarter rewards include a signed 4” x 6” or “3 x 4” print from Susan Eisenberg for a $20 pledge, a signed 8” x 10” print from Naomi Grossman (choose one of three images) for $25 and original art from Peter Simeti (your choice of a pen sketch of Richard Sullivan, The Warden, or a random character) for $5. Some rewards are also being offered at a reduced rate including a role in the film as an extra for $750 and an extra with a reaction shot for $1000.
Plus, you can attend a private screening of the film with some of the cast and crew in Los Angeles, California where Peter Simeti, Erin Kohut (screenwriter) and Chad Ferrin (director) will also be watching along with others for a more affordable $500 pledge. (Backers must be 18 and cover their own travel and lodging. See further details on the Kickstarter page). There are also lots of fun, affordable pledge add-ons.
Backing an independent film is a great way to support the creative arts and several pledge rewards yield bragging rights like your name in the film’s end credits or even a producer credit. Theater buffs may enjoy the prop or wardrobe rewards and aspiring writers will want to check out pledges that offer a signed copy of the script by screenwriter Erin Kohut and/or the cast and crew. Comic/graphic novel entthusiasts can also enjoy rewards offering signed copies of the graphic novel on which the film is based by Peter Simeti (creator, writer co-artist) , Erin Kohut (editor and screenwriter) and Kevin Christensen (penciler).
If you are having trouble choosing one pledge, you can send a message on the Kickstarter page or via Twitter at @TheChairHorror to tell them what goodies you’d like and they will gladly price out a personalized combo pack pledge.
