Rhines’ professional credits beyond his extensive list of publications include acting, directing, and producing “Vinnie & Angela’s Beauty Salon and Funeral Parlor,” which won the Australian International Film Festival and Worldfest Houston. He also portrayed iconic “Twilight Zone” creator Rod Serling for the “Twilight Zone Tower of Terror” ride at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

“The Chair” also stars Oscar nominee Eric Roberts (“Runaway Train”), Brian Thompson (“Buffy the Vampire Slayer”), Bill Oberst, Jr. (“Children of Sorrow”), and Naomi Grossman (“American Horror Story: Asylum”). The dark psychological thriller follows Richard Sullivan’s fight for survival as an innocent death row inmate in a dank prison where his fellow prisoners are being tortured and murdered.

Sullivan’s layered and complex story is a large part of what drew the incredible cast and experienced director Chad Ferrin (“Someone’s Knocking at the Door”) to the project. While “The Chair” delivers an unflinching look at graphic torture and terror within a maximum level correctional facility, it also taps into important themes like child abuse and the propensity for good and evil to coexist and live at war within all of us.

The film currently has a Kickstarter Campaign in place to raise the $300,000 needed to bring it to the screen. At the time of this printing on May 31, $20,289 has been raised with 28 days left in the campaign.

Several fun rewards are being offered according to the level of pledge support. For example, a $50 pledge gets the backer’s name in the film’s end credits, a signed and sketched copy of “The Chair” graphic novel by creator, writer and co-artist Peter Simeti, Kevin Christensen (penciler) and Erin Kohut (editor and screenwriter) and a DVD or Blu-ray copy of the film that will be exclusive to Kickstarter backers and will not be available through retail. A higher level of support, like $4,500 or more, gets backers a role in the film as an extra, plus an associate producer credit.

A full list of pledge amounts and rewards can be seen on “The Chair’s” official Kickstarter page. Interested backers can also find a production budget breakdown detailing where pledge dollars are being spent.
