On the heels of their success with chart topping dance anthem"#SELFIE," New York based electronic dance music DJs Andrew Taggart and Alex Pall of The Chainsmokers released their latest party smash hit hopeful "Kanye" on August 5. The single features LA based indie rock band Siren and was released via Dim Mak/Republic Records. "Kanye" turns outspoken celebrity hip hop artist Kanye West into an adjective used to describe someone who unapologetically conducts themselves however they want. The song is perhaps best described with the verse from the chorus, "I'll be the king of me." "Kanye" is currently available for online purchase from music outlets such as iTunes and Amazon. It can be streamed on Soundcloud and Spotify.
According to Pall:
"We look at the word 'Kanye' as an adjective. The song is about what it means to be like Kanye. It's about just owning it no matter what you're doing. Whether you're on top of the world partying in a penthouse or you're driving an old car playing your favorite song, it's about enjoying the moment you're in and feeling like you're the king. You embrace that confidence. We didn't want to do something too left after '#SELFIE,' but we wanted to show another side of ourselves."
As far as Siren's contribution to "Kanye," Pall explains, "What Siren does is just beautiful, and we built the production around that. It gets the message across. Own your s**t, be self-assured, and remain confident in everything you do."
In support of the release of "Kanye," The Chainsmokers have launched a #BeLike campaign on Twitter and Instagram. Fans can also "take this simple quiz and find out what level you are and #BeLike" by going to this link.
It's been a big year for The Chainsmokers members Taggart and Pall. The Chainsmokers headlined this year's Summerfest in Milwaukee on July 4. Beginning August 18 at 10:00 PM ET, Taggart and Pall will be hosting a weekly radio show called "Nice Hair with The Chainsmokers" on SiriusXM's Electric Area, Channel 52. Their single "#SELFIE" has sold over 1 million copies digitally, was named the sixth Top Music Video of 2014 on YouTube, and are major contenders to be voted into this year's DJ Mag's Top 100 DJ's by fans.
