Ever since Boston radio station WEEI dropped the Boston Celtics from their lineup last month, the Green have been looking for a radio home. Rumors have swirled this week that the C’s are close to inking a deal with Boston’s 98.5 “The Sports Hub”. First reported by CSNE’s A. Sherrod Blakely, the details of the deal are unknown. If the rumors suffice to be true, then this would be a huge win for the Celts and another notch in the belt for The Sports Hub, who continues to help write the obituary for the dying station, WEEI.
WEEI did a commendable job with the Celts, but the signal, even with the FM channel (93.7), was still tough to handle at times due to static. 98.5 has a strong radio signal which will make it more enjoyable to take pleasure in a Celts broadcast in your car or while at work.
As far as the announcers, it is unknown if The Sports Hub will retain the duo of Sean Grande and ex-Celtic Cedric Maxwell for their broadcasts. If they choose to hang on to Grande and Max, it will be another intelligent move for a radio station that is single handedly crushing the old king in town, WEEI.
