The Celtic Tribute 5K Race in 23rd year honors fallen officers (Photos)

The 23rd Annual Spring Run: The Celtic Tribute 5K Race with children’s races will be held on Saturday, March 30, 2013 in Long Branch, NJ. The event pays tribute to all the law enforcement officers lost in the line of duty

Celtic Tribute 5K Web Site - On Line Registration-

The event is staged by the Jersey Shore Running Club and according to Race Director Phil Hinck of Monmouth Beach, “The race is the club’s first event that it ever staged starting as the St Patty’s Day 5K which was held in various locations including Eatontown and Shrewsbury prior to its present home in Long Branch.”

The race starts at Long Branch Promenade, and is conveniently located off or the GSP Exit 105, Rte. 36 East. Ample free race parking is at Seven Presidents Park, 221 Ocean Avenue N., Long Branch, NJ

The 5K race course is completely flat and fast. T-shirts to participants and everyone will enjoy the post-race refreshments while awaiting the awards ceremony, random prizes and grand prize drawing. All are then invited to a free post-race Pasta Party at the Celtic Cottage, a local pub and eatery.

The 5K race is being sponsored by Long Branch PBA #10 with proceeds benefiting the PBA Local 10 Scholarship Fund in Memory of Fallen Officers and the N.J. State PBA Survivor and Welfare Fund.

The 5K Run will begin at 11:00 a.m. and will be followed by children's age group races at 11:45 am. Post-Registration will take place the day of the race beginning at 9:30am.

Finishing first overall for the men last year was Dave Slavinski of Point Pleasant in a time of 16:05 followed Tyler Gillies of Howell in a time of 16:46 and then Matthew Weissinger of Somerville in a time of 16:54.

For the women it was Allison Linnell of Colts Neck in a time of 17:44 followed by Dianne DeOliviera of Brick in a time of19:12 and them Amber Hart of Belmar in 19:55
