In ancient times, science and magic blended together, forming a whole unit just like the two faces of a coin. Astrology was just as important as astronomy for ancient people, the movements of the planetary bodies having been studied by Egyptians, Sumerians, Greeks, and other Eastern civilizations. Among these people, the Celts were well-known for their wisdom and love of knowledge. Their priests, the Druids, preserved the knowledge from one generation to the next by word of mouth: everything was memorized and, therefore, a complete Celtic astrological system hasn’t been passed down to us.
The first fragment of this astrology-related mosaic was uncovered by Robert Graves, author of “The White Goddess,” who correlated the Ogham (Celtic tree alphabet) with a Celtic lunar calendar. The Celts believed that trees played an important role in their lives, those who mastered tree-knowledge being considered full of wisdom and magic. The word “Druid” itself comes from the term “Duir,” equivalent of oak, which supposedly meant “one who has knowledge of the oak.”
Just like the Sun sign on which we rely nowadays when doing readings can provide us a significant amount of information about a person, the tree signs can do the same. In the following paragraphs, the Celtic zodiac will be briefly presented – you may find that it resonates with your inner self considerably more than the traditional zodiac.
Birch (Dec 24 - Jan 20)
The Birch is linked to the Eagle, the Sun, and the bard Taliesin. People born under this sign are characterized by an ambitious attitude; they thrive and shine like the Sun, taking work very seriously and usually being successful in their field of activity. Although they are blessed with great careers, Birch tree people don’t easily enter in a relationship, but once they are committed, they take their couple or family responsibilities seriously.

The Rowan is correlated with the dragon, Uranus, and the goddess Brigid. Rowan Tree people are visionaries, futurists, people who love to put their time and energy into helping others, but not in a usual way. They’re not necessarily futurists in regards to technology, but as visionaries for the future. Given the belief that Rowans have the power to break curses, they are the kind of people who break the rules, defy authority, and refuse to conform in any way. Despite their kind and gentle nature, Rowan tree people tend to express their controversial beliefs and opinions without reflecting upon the possible consequences of sharing such beliefs.
Ash (Feb 18 - March 17)
This sign is associated with the trident, Neptune, and Lir (the Celtic sea god). On one hand, they are sensitive, creative, and artistic, while on the other hand, they are well-anchored into reality, they’re grounded and thoughtful. The word that best describes Ash tree people is “compassion,” because they tend to see both the good and the bad in the world surrounding us. Given this duality, they can be quite complex persons, thereby making it difficult for those around them to understand them.
Alder (March 18 - April 14)
The Alder is correlated with the pentacle, Mars, and King Arthur. People born under this sign are the mirroring of ancient wanderers, warriors, and adventurers, retaining something in their attitude from the mythical heroes. Alder people prefer to that the lead due to their competitive drive, and sometimes they tend to go a bit too far, their actions being foolish and dangerous. Their nature isn’t constant, sometimes allowing their gentleness and enthusiasm to shine through, while other times being excessively sad or angry. However, they easily keep their composure in the face of any opponent, remaining calm and conceiving a back-up plan. Ivy (Sept 30 - Oct 27)
Ivy is correlated with the butterfly, Transpluto, and the goddess Arianrhod. Whenever one thinks of Ivy people, strong willpower and perseverance are the things that come to their mind. People born under this sign have a strong sense of responsibility and justice, shrewdly investigating any given circumstance and generously providing for their families. They mostly draw lessons from their life experience and less from the books that they read. One negative aspect of Ivy people is that they tend to attract unstable elements and they can be truly manipulative at times.

Passionate travelers, always on the look for adventure and fortune, they don’t make a secret out of their relationships and private life.
