The Cellar's Pour it Forward puts the fun in fundraiser

The Cellar is partnering with La Trappe to host a Pour It Forward event to raise a glass of beer while raising money for Evanston's School for Little Children.

From 6 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, January 16, The Cellar will be offering La Trappe Jubelaris Tappist beer for $9. The first 40 beers will be free of charge. Those beers, as well as all beers purchased, will receive a drawing ticket. Additional tickets can be purchased for $1. Drawings are held every hour for La Trappe products including one bottle of Oak-Aged La Trappe Quadruple.

Guests are also given the option of buying the La Trappe goblets for $5. All sales of drawing tickets and glass purchases go directly to the School for Little Children.

Not just a beer brand, La Trappe is the chief revenue source for the Koningshoeven Abbey. For every bottle or glass of La Trappe sold, money is raised to support their work as well as for other organizations such as Evanston's School for Little Children.

“School for Little Children is one of the oldest non-for profit preschools in Evanston,” states General Manager Lizz Blackwell of The Cellar. “It holds a special place in my heart because not only does my son attend there but my brother also did 30 years ago. One of the reasons I love working where I do is because I get to be involved in my community in many different ways. Almost nightly I see both parents and faculty from SLC dining in The Cellar. I jumped at the opportunity to give back to an organization which has given so much to my family. Attending the Pour it Forward event gives people a chance to taste some amazing beer for an awesome cause and perhaps walk away with some really cool raffle prizes including an extremely rare oak aged quadruple from La Trappe.”

Linking charity and beer together may seem odd, but it’s what the monastery, brewery and beer are all about. For more information on this event which takes place at The Cellar on 820 Clark Street in Evanston, email
