The Heart Truth Red Dress Collection celebrates the designers and celebrities who help bring the iconic Red Dress symbol to life in this annual event to raise awareness of women's heart disease -- the number one killer of women. For its 10th collection of dresses, the Fall 2012 show tapped a bevy of top designers including Badgley Mischka, Diane von Furstenberg, Oscar de la Renta and Jason Wu.
Fashion Week Examiner attended the show at Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City. And although the event didn't draw as much A-list star power on the runway as previous Heart Truth shows, we were still entertained. Highlights were a sassy albeit a bit wobbly Christie Brinkley in a sexy Pamella Roland number; a flawless Rebecca Romijn in Marchesa; a nostalgic stroll by "Dynasty" matriarch Linda Evans in a stately Tadashi Shoji suit; and a dramatic Chaka Khan -- who appropriately walked to her hit "I'm Every Woman" -- in an elaborate coat and dress by "Project Runway" alum and costume designer Chris March.
Missteps, however, included Rose McGowan's near tumble in her floor-length Donna Karan gown (to her credit she quickly regained her composure) and basketball wife and former MTV-host La La Anthony strutting at a snail's pace in her skintight Rachel Roy dress.
While scanning the crowd, we even spotted a few famous folks in the front row including actress Phylicia Rashad, musician Nile Rodgers, and Jay Manuel and Miss Jay from "America's Next Top Model." On a somewhat embarrassing note, we mistook Olympic gold medalist Michael Phelps for New York Giants quarterback and two-time Super Bowl MVP Eli Manning and said, "Congratulations," as we walked by. Phelps, a winner in his own right, quizzically replied "Thanks." His Mom, Debbie Phelps, later walked the runway in a red gown by Adrianna Papell and gave her son a smooch from the stage.
