The cast announced for "Star Wars: Episode VII"

Breaking news for movie and science fiction fans in Fresno and all over the world today as Lucasfilm has finally announced the cast of the upcoming Star Wars: Episode VII.

As reported by such sources as SuperHeroHype.Com, actors John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, and Max von Sydow will join the stars of the original trilogy Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew, and Kenny Baker in the new film.

According to director J.J. Abrams, "We are so excited to finally share the cast of Star Wars: Episode VII. It is both thrilling and surreal to watch the beloved original cast and these brilliant new performers come together to bring this world to life, once again. We start shooting in a couple of weeks, and everyone is doing their best to make the fans proud."

For those of you who may not know some of the new additions to the cast, SuperHeroHype.Com offer a breakdown over the actors who are about to become household names very quickly:

John Boyega is a relative newcomer to Hollywood, most well known for the 2011 Joe Cornish film Attack the Block, as well as last year's Half of a Yellow Sun. He's also slated to appear in the upcoming 24 revival, 24: Live Another Day.

Daisy Ridley is another newcomer, having appeared in such TV series as Mr. Selfridge and Silent Witness and stars in the upcoming horror film, Scrawl.

Seen most recently in the HBO hit series Girls, Adam Driver has also appeared in a number of films ranging from large Hollywood pictures such as Lincoln and J. Edgar to smaller movies like Inside Llewyn Davis and Frances Ha.

Oscar Isaac was recently nominated for a Golden Globe for his portrayal of the title character in the Coen Brothers' Inside Llewyn Davis, but his credits also include Won't Back Down, Sucker Punch and The Bourne Legacy.

Andy Serkis is most well known for his providing the voice and motion capture for Gollum in The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit films, but he has also appeared in Rise of the Planet of the Apes and The Adventures of Tintin, as well as the title ape in Peter Jackson's King Kong.

Domhnall Gleeson has appeared in some fan-favorite films including the final entries in the Harry Potter series along with 2012's Dredd and the 2010 remake of True Grit. Last year, he starred in About Time and can be seen coming up in Frank, Calvary, Unbroken and Ex Machina.

Finally, Max von Sydow is a two-time academy Award nominee who has appeared in over a hundred feature films including The Exorcist, Conan the Barbarian, Flash Gordon, Never Say Never Again, Dune, and Minority Report.

The remainder of the cast need no introduction to Star Wars fans. Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew, and Kenny Baker will all be reprising their iconic roles as Han Solo, Princess Leia, Luke Skywalker, C-3P0, Chewbacca, and R2-D2, respectively, from the original Star Wars trilogy.

This is exciting news for fans, the most exciting since the projects was first announced in October 2012 along with the Disney buy out of Lucasfilm, and the announcement of J.J. Abrams getting the directing job in January 2013.
