I've been doing some research lately regarding the concept of a capsule makeup wardrobe. It is intriguing, especially to the beauty junkie in me. What does it mean, clean out to the bare essentials??? I suspect my bare essentials is drastically different than other people's and vice versa.
I don't really think it means you need to toss your entire collection except one eye shadow palette and one lipstick. I think it really means make sure you aren't holding on to items that you just don't really use. I suspect for many beauty junkies this would actually involve creating a few different capsules, one for the normal work day, one for evenings out, and one for casual weekends. And that makes a lot of sense to me.
The idea isn't to get rid of everything, it is to streamline the entire process so that the routine is simpler. And that's a concept I can get behind!
For example, if you wanted to create the three sets mentioned above, here is just an example of what you might need:
- Workdays: foundation, blush, eye shadow duo, simple lip gloss
- Evenings: eye primer, face primer, 2-3 eye shadows, eyeliner, mascara, darker lipstick
- Weekends: concealer, clear brow gel, light lip gloss
Now these can all be easily adapted to your personal preferences.
One of the other advantages to this organization style is that if you travel frequently or need to take a set with you to work for touch-ups before an evening out, then you already have everything ready to grab.
Another side note if you travel often - I highly recommend creating a second set to leave in your travel bag. The last thing you want is for your favorite foundation to go missing with your suitcase some day! There are great little samples and refillable bottles available so that you can plan to take your favorites wherever you jet off to.
