The Capital Bar, http://capital-bar.com/, near Fort Worth’s trendy West 7th street corridor, gets its groove on when live music is in the house - which is pretty much every weekend. It boasts a great outdoor patio area with a great stage for the bands, plus a cool rooftop bar offering good views of the Fort Worth skyline. Plenty of bar space inside too for those preferring the modern conveniences of air conditioning.
Drinks are reasonably priced and the music, well, the music is primarily hormone-filled, bootie-shakin’ danceable fare that caters to the college and twenty-something crowd. But it’s okay too if one is thirtyish or over, especially when good danceable numbers come up, pretty much everybody clusters together on the dance floor to shake, rattle and roll what they got. In other words, “boogie chillins!” Nobody will judge.
The sound system is top notch and whatever band is playing, the audio guys make sure they are heard and all is well in the sound department, which is a very welcomed thing indeed since we are talking live music outdoors. Folks, this is impressive. We’ve all been at outdoor venues where the music is anything but audible. No complaints here. Kudos to the audio techs!
My honey and I were out tooling around town one Friday night last year and after a great dinner at King Tut’s Egyptian Restaurant, http://www.kingtutegyptian.com, we decided to check out the Capital Bar to see what all the fuss was about. Okay, so we are both in our 50’s now, still fairly young by today’s standards (60 is the new 40 now, right?) semi-fit, and still able to shake, rattle, and roll occasionally to prove we still have it. Upon arrival, we were met at the front door by an NFL-sized security guard checking Ids. Hmm…okay, if you insist. We immediately found our way to the patio area and ordered drinks.
During the course of the evening, we realized we were probably the oldest ones there, but that’s okay. Several younger guys were eyeballing my wife whenever they walked past and smiling at her often, but again, that’s okay. She was dressed to the nines. I rather enjoyed the feeling of having younger males checking her out. Sorta boosted my male ego as well, if you catch my drift. (Ladies, take heed: if you are on the other side of 30, this is a good place to go and be seen. The youthful male population is alive and well and healthy.)
In all, we had a good time and even chatted a bunch with the younger crowd. Upon leaving, we realized how packed the place was as there was a line around the building waiting to get in. We felt lucky. And of course, my wife was getting noticed, again. Smile.
The Capital Bar is a good time. For any age.
