The Campaign to Nowhere

The American voting public is preparing to be courted by the GOP as never before. The Iowa Straw Poll and the start of a new debate season show that the once strong core of the Republican Party has now a strong thread of support in the Tea Party forces.

Strangely enough members of the Tea Party movement were not always so welcome by the long standing members of the Republican Party. In the early days of the last fight for the official GOP nomination for president candidacy, after Ron Paul garnered so much support from Libertarians and disaffected Republicans (and Democrats), the Republican caucuses were refusing many 'outsiders' to speak. Fearing a hostile takeover of Libertarians in Republican clothing (gasp). The resulting nomination and imminent failed campaign for the Republican Party was a turning point. Now the passionate newcomers are taking places on the front line with renewed vigor and standing and the remnants of the old guard are too distraught to try to hold long lost ground.

Needless to say it was the message of liberty, fiscally responsible spending and a more reasonable foreign policy that brought many to the side of Ron Paul. However the record breaking fund raising, grassroots support, and online domination was not enough to cause any of the major news organizations to give up their determination to support only the candidate that supported their own personal (I meant what I said) interest.

Now bring to all this quarrelling and dissention into the present these supporters of liberty and fiscally sound government grew in strength and slowly became overrun with people seeking to run out in front of the angry mob and claim to be its new leader (see Tea-O-Conned, by Jake Shannon). Interestingly enough the current list of Republican candidates, who surely espouse fiscally sound government, are about to be fiscally flamboyant with dozens of ill advised narrowly different campaigns to nowhere. In fact the only standout from the pack is, you guessed it, Ron Paul.

Small 'l' libertarians including a large and growing part of the Republican/Independent movement are now keen to support this candidate for his unyielding take on economics, foreign policy, and home grown liberty. Even awash in a dozen Campaigns to Nowhere he still will have difficult time working against the entrenched media moguls who are not yet willing to accept an outsider critical of the pillars upon which they so comfortably rest.

If the major news networks keep strong arming Ron Paul from balanced and fair coverage then it will take significantly more fundraising and energy than the last campaign to even put him into the number one GOP spot, much less the white house.
