The cafeteria Catholic, and the Transfiguration of false ideology

See also

We are baptized, and confirmed, as prophets, priests, and servant kings, in the waters of Jesus' Passion, death, and Resurrection. This simply means that we are to evangelize the gospel Truth, offer God all that is ours in thanks, praise, and in submission to His Holy Will, while serving the Father, through the Mercy of the Son, in the Spirit of compassion, charity, and reconciliation.

Oh, and this is all to be done through carrying one's cross.

Yet, somehow, a large number of baptized Catholics seem to think that Jesus is an evolving character, and that His gospel is open to ideological manipulation.

This deadly, dangerous postmodern American heresy needs Transfiguration!

"The LORD said to Abram: 'Go forth from the land of your kinsfolk and from your father’s house to a land that I will show you.'" Genesis 12:1-4

Breaking News! God shows us His Truth through Revelation, and the Living Tradition of His Church--the only appointed stewards worthy of interpretation and teaching. News Flash! God doesn't desire progressive ideology to bring out the 'new' Catholic-Christian morality for our times. Abortion, euthanasia, contraception, and gay 'marriage' are not signs of an evolving Christianity.

They are signs of a devolving heresy!

"He loves justice and right; of the kindness of the LORD the earth is full." Psalm 33:4-5, 18-20, 22

Breaking News! We are not sent to the ends of the earth to bring social justice and 'charity' which springs from progressive, socialist ideology. For Jesus was both progressive, and conservative! Jesus is the progress of selfless Love--impossible for man, possible only through God. Jesus, moreover, is the conserver of Truth--a reality to great to respect, and conserve, in such a fallen race.

The gospel has been handed to us to share, unadulterated. To adulterate it, through false ideology, is to commit adultery with God.

"He saved us and called us to a holy life, not according to our works but according to his own design..." 2 Timothy 1:8-10

The toughest challenge to date, however, isn't the temptation to false ideology, and adulteration of the gospel, but to practice Catholic-Christianity without need of the Cross! Why suffer self denial when we can philosophically, and scientifically, rationalize our way around the Cross? Why give birth and be a mom when we can abort? Why take care of cranky granddad when we can euthanize him? Why live the cross of chastity when we can 'marry' a person of our own gender? Why listen to the patriarchal, and demanding, Church when we can play God and use contraception? Why vote through our faith when we can vote through our emotions and whatever is currently popular?

Why be holy when we can be comfy?

"While he was still speaking, behold, a bright cloud cast a shadow over them, then from the cloud came a voice that said, 'This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased; listen to him.'” Matthew 17:1-9

Peter was babbling when God the Father, from the cloud, broke in with an urgent message: 'This is my beloved Son...listen to Him!' Simply, if we would all just shut up and listen to Him--in His Sacred Scripture, in His Church's Apostolic Teaching Authority, in the cry of the poor, and in our faith-formed consciences, maybe, just maybe, our Church, our nation, and our world would be Transfigured.

But this Transfiguration would feel, and look, like the Cross.
