Fans of ABC Family's Bunheads had to say goodbye to the Amy Sherman-Palladino helmed pop culture infused treasure hunt of a show earlier this month when the cable network finally admitted that it had cancelled the critical darling. As per Buzzfeed, Sherman-Palladino gathered all available to say goodbye and thanks for watching on August 17th. The dancers include Ginny (Bailey Buntain), Sasha (Julia Goldani Telles) and Jeanine Mason (Cosette). Sadly, Sutton Foster was unavailable (possibly inking this deal as per TV Line?), and neither Kelly Bishop nor Emma Dumont seem to be in sight. The video ends with a final bow and a simple title card "For everyone who came to play in our sandbox - We Thank You".
Critics devoted many a column inch cheering for the show and begging for renewal, but ABC Family seems intent on going in a different, and, understandably, more ratings driven direction. As per Broadcasting & Cable, the cable network appears to be aiming for more comedies to round out their more sudsy fare, although, really, Tori Spelling? Not that there is anything wrong with Spelling, but the idea that the network said no to Sherman-Palladino only to say yes to Spelling makes the blow a little more bitter and sharp.
Is it really too late to beg another network to please pick up Bunheads?
