Who being the brightness of His glory and the express image of His person… (Heb. 1:3)
The brightness of the sun’s rays expresses the nature of the sun. But the rays are not actually the sun itself—they come from it.
Since its creation, light has never ceased to radiate from the sun—so perfectly one—as long as the sun exists, the radiance of its rays will shine.
Jesus is the brightness or the radiance of the Father’s glory.
The Greek word for “brightness” is apaugosmo: it speaks of God’s glory “pouring forth” or “streaming forth” from Jesus. To grasp the power of this truth you must first know that Jesus is of the same nature, substance and essence as the Father… Jesus is God.
He is like the Father, yet is a distinct person from the Father. And as a distinct person, He is the brightness (the pouring forth) of the essence of God.
It is the God who commanded light to shine out of darkness, who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. (2 Cor. 4:6)
The apostle Paul explained how the streaming from God’s brightness (in the face of Jesus) enters your heart… shines within… and imparts divine light.
This light always shines in the darkness—no matter where darkness is—you can radiate His glory to others.
