The Brigantine produces a friendship meant for a lifetime

A brigantine originally was a small ship with oars and sails and was the vessel favored by Mediterranean pirates.  They had two masts and the very term came to mean square rigging on the masts.

By the turn of the 21st century, the term Brigantine has come to mean excellence in sea food and elegance in presentation.  The Brigantine Family of Restaurants feature seven  spots for seafood, six restaurants produce fine Mexican fare, and their La Jolla location  offers steaks from the Steakhouse at Azul La Jolla.

They’ve been doing business here in San Diego since 1969.  Back in the 80s they were recognized as offering the ‘best swordfish in the world’ as stated in USA Today.  Frankly they’ve received a great number of awards and honors for their food and service over the years.

Nancy and I met the Brigantine in La Mesa and we enjoyed both the ambience and food.  By happenstance we took in their Mexican food from Miguel’s Cucina in Coronado Miguel's Cocina one great mexican restaurant , when we were invited to join family there, and thus renewed a fine friendship with The Brigantine Family of Restaurants.

Passing the Brigantine in Coronado on the way to Miguel’s Cucina one could not help but be enchanted with the surroundings.  Hallways leading to shops and hotel rooms feel like a European holiday.  If entering the maze through the western most point you’ll pass by the Brigantine’s patio which is very inviting.

Nancy and I did the Brigantine at 1333 Orange Ave. in Coronado.  This is not a huge spot and is further broken down into small spaces which give rise to a sense of dining on an old pirate’s brigantine with rich dark wood panels and intimate cubicles where my mate and I did the shrimp cocktail, clam chowder, crab shrimp Louie salad, and fish and chips all were magnificent indeed.

The service was outstanding.  The bill was no fast food tab, but with all our food and drinks inclusive the tab for our feast was under $50.00 and I must admit the margaritas were first class.

You can’t believe this slice of heaven was served up on December 28th with outside temperatures hovering in the mid 70s.  Wow!  Eat your hearts out east coasters.

When you come to San Diego give them a try you won’t want to leave ever.
