The Brazilian Army Commission in Washington D.C. celebrated its 70th anniversary by congratulating the winners of the art contest on June 10, 2010 at the Commission's Annex.

For the past several months, the Commission has registered a dozen artists with a challenging  task - artistic and architectural interpretation of Commission's residence and its overall mission.

The Commission clearly stated the rules of participation, dimensions and media of the artwork (oil and acrylic on canvas or watercolor).

After careful deliberation of 3 members of the jury, to include people with artistic knowledge and military culture, the jury committee decided to rank the artworks  as follows:

First Place ($1200 award):  Karina Silva - Acrylic on canvas
Second Place ($800 award): Luiza Brakarz- Watercolor
Third Place ($500 award): Elizabeth Moody - Acrylic on canvas
Honorable Mention: Tom Wagner - Acrylic on canvas.

The artists, Brazilian military and family members were warmly recognized at an intimate reception accompanied by Brazilian tunes and local delicacies. The winners were handed out honorary plaques in addition to monetary compensation for their winning art pieces.
