After spending the last 30 years in an historic Victorian house that had become a staple in Rock Hills, the award winning independent bookstore known as The Book House of St. Louis has moved to its new home in Maplewood. On May 1, the owners were told they had 30 days to move out of the location after the property was purchased by a developer looking to demolish the historic house and put up a storage facility. After initially attempting to fight the eviction and even exploring the possibility of re-location the house itself, Michelle Barron announced in July that the book store would move to a new location in Maplewood.
After completing the first part of the move, including transporting over 200,000 books, Barron still needs help moving forward with the re-opening in November. According to the stores website and Facebook page, donations are accepted at their temporary office location next to Salon Lofts in Maplewood. There will also be a fundraiser for The Book House on November 15 at Schlafly Bottleworks featuring presentations by many St. Louis area authors as well as a silent book auction. The cost of admission is $15.00.
