A spokesman for the Lanza family announced Monday, Dec. 31, 2012, that the body of Connecticut school shooter, Adam Lanza, has been claimed by his father, Peter Lanza. According to MSN.com, there was some type of service over the weekend, but no details were released. There will be no public announcement of the disposition of his remains, and MSN.com explains why this is so:
James Fox, a professor of criminology at Northeastern University, said it is not unusual for notorious criminals to be buried in undisclosed locations to keep away the media, protesters and potential vandals. He said there could be an increased risk of a gravesite becoming a target in Lanza's case because he took his own life and was not punished.
"There is the potential for people to express anger, hostility, rage at the symbol of a person's grave if it were known," he said.
The Daily Mail reported that the DNA of Adam Lanza will be studied for any clues in genetic evidence for this mass killing. This is the first time this has ever been done.
