Students everywhere are preparing to return to school, some as soon as this week. One school in particular that is capturing the headlines of some publications is Zaytuna. Located in Berkeley, California, it is the first Islamic school to open in the United States, according to a www.familysecuritymatters.org article on Saturday.
The school offers two majors: Arabic Language and Islamic Law and Theology. Some of the interesting curriculum requirements include Islamic history (as opposed to US history) and sharia law.
President Obama pointed out during the Ramadan dinner when he endorsed the mosque that a minority want to build near ground zero, that there is more than one type of Islamic religion. Those who ran the planes into the New York towers were branded as extremists by him, and not a part of mainstream Islam. Well, Zaytuna has some interesting faculty.
One of Zaytuna’s key founders, Sheikh Hamza Yusuf, delivered a speech in 1991 before the Islamic Circle of North America which was entitled, “Jihad is the Only Way.” His written words to another Islamic group are an eerie near echo of an opinion that Obama has verbalized about America in the past: “America is a country that has little to be proud of in its past and less to be proud of in the present.” Yusuf went on to write that, “I am a citizen of this country not by choice but by birth. I reside in this country not by choice but by conviction in attempting to spread the message of Islam in this country. I became Muslim in the past because I did not believe in the false gods of this society whether we call them Jesus or democracy or the bill of Rights or any other element of this society that is held sacrosanct by the ill-informed peoples that make up this charade of a society…Fundamentals of Islam are being compromised.”
Yusuf is also on the board of directors for CAIR (Council on American-Islamic Relations), and only two days before the 9/11 attack on America, he said, “This country is facing a terrible fate, and the reason for that is because the country stands condemned. It stands condemned like Europe stood condemned because of what it did. And lest people forget, Europe suffered two world wars after conquering Muslim lands.”
Another Zaytuna founder is Imam Zaid Shakir, who often speaks at CAIR meetings. Shakir has verbally expressed his support for attacking military transport planes as being acceptable per Islamic law, explaining that, “Jihad is physically fighting the enemies of Islam to protect and advance the religion of Islam. This is jihad.”
A third radical character in the mix of Zaytuna founders is Hatem Bazian. This Islamic Studies scholar was born in Palestinian territory and has been brazenly outspoken regarding his views in support of militant Muslim uprisings (intifada) while speaking to fellow jihadists. He has admitted that jihadists study intifadas in Palestine and Iraq and he encourages the organization of an intifada in the US.
While there doesn’t seem to be a whole lot of protest at this time surrounding the official opening of Zaytuna, the building of an Islamic center in Murfreesboro, Tennessee is, according to resident and filmmaker Eric Allen Bell, a “polarizing issue” in an “otherwise peaceful community.” A www.murfreesboropost.com article reports that “Bell moved to Murfreesboro two years ago seeking a second home away from the aggressive pace of the Hollywood scene.” A www.wsj.com article last week indicated that the center would include an Islamic school. But the school isn’t the only point of contention that Murfreesboro residents have with the center.
According to another Murfreesboro Post article from about two weeks ago, many residents who spoke at a monthly Rutherford County Commission meeting were insisting that the county commission reconsider “their approval (regarding the Islamic center plans) claiming Islam is not a religion and expressing fear that Islamic sharia law will be imposed on Murfreesboro citizens.”
Resident Darrell Whaley insisted that there is a dangerous pattern to be heeded: “Look at the history of Islam. Look at the statements that it’s making in all the countries where it rules and reigns and that is the intent right here in Rutherford County in the United States of America.”
One alarming fact that the Murfreesboro Post article brought out is that Pete Doughtie, publisher of The Reader, was victimized by claims that he was printing “hate speech” in his news weekly. As a result, his publication was “removed from local Kroger stores.” Doughtie challenged the County Commission to consider this: “Since Muslim have been in this community, so they say, since 1982, I’d like to know which service clubs they belonged to and what local charities they’ve supported and how many Memorial Day services they’ve attended.”
Another poignant demand came from resident Laurie Cardoza-Moore who called for an investigation of “the Muslim community’s ties to terrorism before approving their expansion plans.” She insisted that “Any failure to engage in such action will result in a lawsuit against the county and you as county commissioners individually without immunity and with attorneys fees payable by you to the prevailing plaintiffs in such suit under federal law 28 U.S.C. section 1988.” Perhaps she had the German mosque in mind when she made her statement – the same mosque that was closed by German authorities because it was discovered that it had ties to the 9/11 terror plot.
Resident James Estes attempted to appeal to any roots of Christianity that these county commissioners living in America’s Bible belt might hold to with his words: “Some say the greatest trick the Devil ever played on mankind was convincing people that he didn’t exist. If that’s the case, I’d say his second greatest trick is convincing people that the god of Islam is the God of Christianity. This agenda of Islam is in direct conflict with American values.”
Sixth district Congressional Candidate Lou Ann Zelenik also commented about the Murfreesboro mosque and community center: “this ‘Islamic center’ is not part of a religious movement; it is a political movement designed to fracture the moral and political foundation of Middle Tennessee.”
Another Tennessee city protesting an Islamic center that includes a mosque and classrooms is in Antioch, according to a www.loganswarning.com article from June, and on Saturday, Logan’s Warning reported that there is one in Florence, Kentucky that is being protested, too.
When one considers that there are other mosques and Islamic community centers that are being opposed across the nation, Temecula, California; Brooklyn, New York; Sheboygan, Wisconsin and Staten Island, New York to name just a few more, one has to wonder if “fracturing the moral and political foundation” might be bigger than just Middle Tennessee.
In what may be the New World Order / One World System wave of the future, Claremont School of Theology in California (a financially troubled United Methodist seminary) has restructured its fall program in such as way as to “train future pastors, imams, and rabbis under one roof,” according to a www.time.com article on Sunday. The article goes on to mention that other “Protestant programs have added world religion classes as well as partnerships with Jewish and Muslim programs.”
But the most telling quote in the article really comes from Daniel Aleshire, executive director of The Association of Theological Schools: “I think that we are on the cusp of a lot of change, but we are at the front end of it, so it’s not clear which of these are going to be the survivors, what new models might in fact emerge. In 20 years, the whole theological training landscape could be quite different” (emphasis added). In this Examiner’s opinion, 20 years seems generous.

Muslims are the most barbaric savage people on the face of this earth, vessels of wrath made to be taken and destroyed. Quoting Benedict XVI, quoting Manuel II, "Show me just what Mohammed brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman." Why would anyone in their right mind want anything to do with Muslims, their pedophile prophet or their phoney moon god? We are the chosen people of the Most High God, Jehovah, and beside Him there is no god.
AMEN
I have so much respect for real christians who rather spread the merciful and loving aspects of their religion, rather than slandering others due to ignorance.I am a Muslim, and all I can say is God bless us all.
