The Akron, Ohio duo of Dan Auerbach (vocalist/guitarist) and Patrick Carney (drummer/producer) who are better known as the band The Black Keys create such a powerful and loud sound for only two men. But perhaps the loudest sound being produced is the buzz the band has been creating over the past few years. While the band had released five CDs prior to their 2010 CD Brothers it was that CD that really put the band on the map and made them a household name. Along with garnering critical acclaim Brothers won three Grammys, made the top 5 of numerous best of 2010 CD lists and produced popular singles like “Tighten Up,” “Howlin For You,” and “Everlasting Light.”
But their follow up to Brothers and seventh CD El Camino is about to be released this Tuesday and is also generating a ton of buzz too. The first single “Lonely Boy” has already been played on several local stations and the band played that song and “Gold On The Ceiling” on Saturday Night Live last night. Local stations are even playing the CD in its entirety ahead of its release. WRNR 103.1 played the CD in its entirety on Friday and WHFS 97.5 will follow suit by playing the entire CD tonight at 8pm.
But perhaps the best news for local fans of the band was the announcement that The Black Keys will be heading out on tour next year and will be making a stop in DC. They will be playing a show at Verizon Center on March 9, 2012. Tickets go on sale this Friday the 9th at 10am through ticketmaster.com. The show will be a general admission floor show and tickets are $40.00 and $55.00. The popular band Arctic Monkeys will be the opening act. The band is known for their energetic live shows and their signature mix of garage, alternative and blues rock sounds just as dynamic and amazing live. Hopefully everyone picks up what is sure to be one of the best CDs of the year in El Camino when it is released this Tuesday.
