Two of the biggest names in indie rock—The Flaming Lips and The Black Keys—announced today that they will be embarking on a short tour together. The tour sounds like a dream come true for festival hopefuls anyone who hopes to hear “Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots” and “I Got Mine” live on the same night.
The tour kicks off on April 28 in Kansas City and wraps up May 3 in Nashville, TN. Unfortunately, this tour is not coming to Phoenix or anywhere near the west coast for that matter. Surprisingly, the tour skips The Flaming Lips’ home state of Oklahoma and The Black Keys’ stomping ground in Ohio. Hopefully some good YouTube footage will arise out of this tour.
The Black Keys have started work on a follow up to 2011’s El Camino, which will tentatively be done in March, meaning the band could very well release a new album this year.
The Black Keys performed at US Airways Center last year and The Flaming Lips have not performed in Arizona since headlining McDowell Mountain Music Fest in 2009.
