The Biggest Loser Second Chance launched its 15th season on Tuesday, October 15, 2013. Bob Harper, Jillian Michaels and Dolvett Quince are back to offer their guidance to 15 contestants who this season will be chosen by the trainers extraordinaire.
Ruben Studdard, winner of American Idol's season two, is showcased in the first quarter of the episode. We learn that he has experienced sleep apnea, a 100-pound weight loss -- yet begins his next challenge at 426 pounds -- and has been married and divorced. No diva, Ruben comfortably fits in with others. He takes ribbing from Jillian about too much shoulder hair in stride. Starting at 462 pounds, he lost a respectable 21 pounds at the first weigh-in.
The team members are easy to know and like. Unlike past seasons, there seems to be no mean-spirited people. The focus is on improving their lives, rather than a cash prize. A big common goal is to be healthy in order to take care of their families.
Tumi, Craig, Jay, Fernanda and Marie are members of Jillian's white team. Jay is easy to remember -- he wore his cowboy hat on the scale.
Ruben, Jennifer, Tanya, Rachel and David are on Dolvett's red team. David lost an astonishing 38 pounds at the first weigh-in. Tanya, who lost 16 pounds, has a two-year-old daughter who weighed 11.6 pounds at birth.
Bob's team includes Holley, Bobby, Matt, Chelsea and Hap. You may recognize Holley as a member of the Olympian weightlifting team.
No one was sent home because of a "trainer save" option. Jillian exercised her save.
