Sanjana "Sunny" Chandrasekar spoke with Reality TV World on Dec. 31 about what made her decide to join "The Biggest Loser" and whether or not anyone pushed her into signing up for the reality series.
The 16-year old contestant on the NBC weight loss reality series said she was just ready to get help and make a positive change in her life. She also said she hopes to make a change in the life of her family and community as well through the competition.
"I reached out to The Biggest Loser and I just told them about myself, and I guess since then, my journey has been totally real," Sunny said. "There is nothing fake about it."
Chandrasekar said she has tried a number of new things so far, including dancing classes and sports, and is trying to tie all those in with her new healthy lifestyle. The young woman said her main goal is to be able to participate in activities that normal teenagers like to do.
She also said the competition has been a positive experience and they have not pushed her into anything that she feels uncomfortable with. Sunny said that she ran a 13-minute mile when she started "The Biggest Loser," but now she can run the mile in nine minutes, 42 seconds.
"The Biggest Loser" has decided this year to tackle childhood obesity and have a group of teens ranging from 13 to 17 years old. The kids will not be eliminated, like the adult competition, and will not have to weigh in on camera each week. This show is simply to help the kids change their lives and work with them every week to make positive changes in their lives.
"The Biggest Loser" next airs on Sunday, Jan. 9, at 9 p.m. EST on NBC.
