Jackson Carter of Utah was announced today as the first openly gay contestant on NBC's hit show The Biggest Loser. It has been a ratings champion for the past four years and will now enter the Land of Dorothy.
"I think the biggest thing for me, not being accepted by my peer group and fitting in, I became a people-pleaser and never took care of myself,"Carter tells the Salt Lake City Tribune. "I put everyone else's needs before my own. I am now aware of it and can try to fix it," Carter says. He also admits, "The hardest work is not the workout, it is dealing with people who have shut themselves off from their emotions."
Many minorities have been cast on The Biggest Loser over the past four years. However, the show was criticized recently for not being gay-friendly. Carter's appearance will change that and the producers of the show promise to cast more gay and lesbians in the near future. As a result, you can bet the ratings will increase.
