The Big Day

In case you forgot, today is Groundhog's Day. That's right, it's February 2, 2014, and according to MSN news, Punxsutawney Phil did indeed see his shadow - thus ushering in six more weeks of the dreaded cold weather we've been battling in neighborhoods throughout Omaha. As thousands of fans shouted Phil, the adorable fuzzy Phil made his grand appearance.

However, after seeing his shadow, he ran straight back into his hole. Thus, the daybreak ceremony ended with bad news for those of us who are unable to hibernate. Interestingly, though, there are other groundhogs in the forecasting business, including Staten Island Chuck in New York and General Beauregard Lee in Atlanta, Georgia.

Chuck also saw his shadow, thus predicting an extended winter in the northeast. However, General Lee had other plans. He apparently did not run back underground. Thus, General Lee, with a 93% accuracy rate, signified an early end to winter in the southern states, where they were apparently enjoying the break from the heat - well some of them were anyway.

Whether you prefer cold or warm, enjoy your day!
