Big news, bibliophiles: The Big Book Club Getaway is coming to Connecticut!
On February 1-2, 2013, more than 40 bestselling and award-winning authors will converge at a world-class venue – the Mohegan Sun.
Featured authors/presenters will include internationally bestselling author Tess Gerritsen (whose novels serve as the basis of TNT’s hit drama series Rizzoli & Isles), nationally bestselling author Brad Meltzer (who also hosts the TV show Decoded), and talk show host/philanthropist/author Leeza Gibbons, who will deliver the event’s keynote address. Each presentation will be immediately followed by a book signing session.
Registrants will receive credentials that allow them access to the Main Stage (General Sessions), concurrent sessions, movie screenings, and the Big Book Club Boulevard exhibition; there will also be a Books and Bars discussion of Hank Phillippi Ryan’s The Other Woman at Bobby Flay’s Bar America at 9:30 p.m. on Friday, February 1st. Additionally, participants will receive a gift bag along with an event information handout outlining the latest schedule of speakers and activities. The full event schedule can be viewed here.
General admission is $100 per person for the full two day program if registered and paid-in-full by January 31st; “At-the-Door” Admission on the day of the event is $125 per person. One day admission (for either Friday, February 1st or Saturday, February 2nd) can be purchased for $50 per person. Reduced rates are available for students, teachers and librarians ($75, with school ID presented upon event registration) and book clubs (5-9 people are $80 per person; 10 or more people are $70 per person). More information on registration can be found here.
This event will serve as the pilot to what is anticipated to become an ongoing series.
From The Big Book Club Getaway web site:
The concept expands upon the traditional living room reading group where small groups of avid readers come together to meet interesting people, discuss books and taste great food and wine. Through The Big Book Club Getaway, attendees will escape to a fabulous resort where they can explore the world through literature. Guests will have the opportunity to converge with other book clubs and meet celebrated authors and experts on topics such as cooking, health, history, creativity … even sex! Enjoy fun experiences including gaming, virtual travel, spa services, nightlife, shopping, and dining. There’s something for everyone.
A portion of the event proceeds will benefit the Alzheimer’s Association.
