'The Big Bang Theory' star Mayim Bialik stops breastfeeding 4-year-old son (Video)

Mayim Bialik, who plays Amy Farrah Fowler on “The Big Bang Theory,” has announced that she has recently stopped breastfeeding her four-year-old son, Fred. According to a Feb. 9 E! Online report, Bailik wrote about the experience on Kveller.com.

Mayim has spoken openly about attachment parenting in interviews and even written a book on the subject. Bialik has been criticized for her parenting techniques, such as extended nursing and co-sleeping.

Mayim wrote that Fred decided to give up breastfeeding himself on Thanksgiving. He had still been nursing once a day for a year prior to weaning. Bialik stressed that she stopped breastfeeding her preschooler because he was ready, not because of the ugly comments and strong opinions others threw her way.

Mayim said she loved breastfeeding and misses that connection with Fred, but has found new ways to comfort and bond with her little guy. Mayim Bialik thanked her friends and family who held their tongues and kept their opinions to themselves about her attachment parenting methods.
