On Wednesday, April 2 The Hollywood Reporter exclusively broke the news that the popular CBS television sitcom "The Big Bang Theory" will air a special "Star Wars" episode in honor of the holiday associated with the film. The episode will air on Thursday, May 1 which is just a few days before the annual "Star Wars" Day.

The episode, entitled "The Proton Transmogrification," will have the group celebrating the holiday with a little help from some friends. Sheldon, Harold, Raj, and Leonard will be visited again by Dr. Arthur Jeffries also known as Professor Proton (guest star Bob Newhart), who will appear to Sheldon as his own personal Jedi master. However, the exact identity of the Jedi master that Newhart will appear as is being kept under wraps.

Lucasfilm contacted the series about working on an episode together, and the company visited the set to help with the special effects. The episode will feature a re-creation of Dagobah, the remote planet covered with forests and swamps that was Yoda's home when he met Luke Skywalker. Lucasfilm also provided props for the episode such as lightsabers. The characters will be wearing themed clothes throughout the episode, which will also include intricate sets and designs.

The series already created a similarly themed episode in which Sheldon met James Earl Jones and Carrie Fisher, who appeared in the "Star Wars" film series as the voice of Darth Vader and Princess Leia. The new episode will be the twenty second episode of the season, with just one episode left before the season finale. The popular holiday is celebrated on May 4, due to pay on words with the popular film phrase "May the force be with you."
