'The Big Bang Theory' inspires biologists to name bee species 'Euglossa bazinga' (Video)

The Big Bang Theory” has introduced several catchphrases and even a song, “Soft Kitty,” that gets stuck in the heads of viewers. However, Sheldon’s “bazinga” is clearly one of the most notable phrases to come out of the show. According to a Jan. 3 CNN report, it has inspired the name of a species of bees.

Brazilian biologists wanted to honor actor Jim Parsons and his portrayal of Dr. Sheldon Cooper. The changed the name of the Brazilian orchid bee to Euglossa bazinga.

It’s been a good week for “The Big Bang Theory.” The Jan. 3 episode, “The Egg Salad Equivalency,” brought in the highest number of viewers in the shows history. It also introduced fans to Sheldon Cooper’s Council of Ladies, which opens a door for new merchandizing opportunities in the CBS store. Having a bee name in the show’s honor is just icing on the cake.
